Michael Levenson is the William B. Christian Professor of English at the University of Virginia. His research focuses on 19th and 20th century British and American literature, with particular emphasis on modernism and Victorian studies.

Levenson's work explores the intersections of modernism with urban studies, gender theory, and cultural philosophy. He has published extensively on figures like T.S. Eliot, Virginia Woolf, and Joseph Conrad, and his projects include the digital initiative Monuments and Dust: The Culture of Victorian London. His recent lectures examine topics like Marclay's The Clock and the environmental dimensions of Dickensian London.
His publications span avant-garde movements, literary violence, narrative experimentation, and psychoanalytic theory. Collaborations with Karen Chase have produced significant scholarship on London's cultural history.
