Dr. Michael Lau is a Professor of Graduate Psychology and Associate Professor of Undergraduate/Graduate Psychology at Felician University's School of Arts & Sciences. He also serves as Director of Graduate Counseling Psychology. Previously, he held leadership roles including Department Chair and Interim Director of Clinical Training at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Lau earned his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Notre Dame, with a minor in Quantitative Psychology.
His research focuses on mental health of racial/ethnic minorities, methodological issues in psychology, and sexual minority mental health. He has served on editorial boards for The Counseling Psychologist and Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development, and currently holds an Associate Editor position at the latter. Clinically, he specializes in working with LGBTQ+ clients, racial/ethnic minorities, and Chinese-speaking populations.
Lau teaches courses such as Evidence-Based Theories, Research Design, and Dissertation Advisement. His publications span over two decades, addressing topics like racial discrimination's health impacts, replication crises in psychology, and multicultural counseling frameworks. His work frequently intersects philosophy of science with applied mental health research.
