Michael Lacina

Michael Lacina serves as Professor and Department Chair of Accounting in the College of Business at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, a position he has held since 2016.

His academic credentials include:

• Ph.D. in Accounting from Purdue University
• M.B.A. in Finance from Michigan State University
• B.B.A. in Accounting from Western Michigan University

He maintains an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in Michigan with prior industry experience.

Professor Lacina's research focuses on financial accounting and corporate finance, with publications spanning empirical financial reporting, international accounting standards, and educational methodologies. His work appears consistently in high-impact journals including the Journal of Accounting Research and Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting.

He actively engages with professional communities through presentations at the Texas Society of CPAs and UTMB's Physician Leadership Academy, bridging academic research with practical applications.

As an educator, he teaches financial and managerial accounting at both undergraduate and graduate levels while directing the department's internship program to connect students with industry opportunities.
