Michael L. Pinedo is the Julius Schlesinger Professor of Operations Management in the Department of Technology, Operations, and Statistics at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University. He has been a faculty member at Stern since 1996, following prior academic appointments at Columbia University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Cientificas.
His research focuses on the modeling, planning, and scheduling of production and service systems, with recent emphasis on operational risk in financial services. Key areas include stochastic modeling, supply chain management, and the design of decision support systems. His work bridges theoretical advances with industrial applications, particularly in manufacturing and financial sectors.
Professor Pinedo has authored and co-authored influential books such as Scheduling: Theory, Algorithms, and Systems and Planning and Scheduling in Manufacturing and Services. His editorial leadership includes serving as editor of the Journal of Scheduling and associate editor for several top journals including Management Science and Production and Operations Management.
