Michael Kropf is an Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA. He holds a D.M.A. in Music Composition from the University of Michigan (2022), an M.M. from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (2016), and a B.M. in Music Theory and Composition from New York University. His research focuses on evocative musical engagements with history, places, and personalities, blending compositional innovation with interdisciplinary storytelling.
Notable collaborations include works with Marin Alsop, the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra, and the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble. Recent projects include Moses in Nederland (a violin concerto based on Yiddish melodies) and an orchestrated song-cycle with librettist Patrick Smith. He actively contributes to music education through teaching at Gonzaga, the University of Michigan, and the Walden School’s Young Musicians Program.
