Michael Koehle is a Professor at the School of Kinesiology, University of British Columbia. His research focuses on Exercise Physiology, Environmental Physiology, and Sport and Exercise Medicine, particularly examining the impacts of air pollution and altitude on athletic performance and health.
His recent studies explore topics such as expiratory flow limitation in endurance athletes, muscle oxygen saturation dynamics, and the health effects of traffic-related air pollution. He collaborates with interdisciplinary research teams and is affiliated with the Mobilizing Sport and Sustainability Collective.
Key trends in his publications include the intersection of environmental stressors (air pollution, hypoxia) with cardiorespiratory function, inflammatory responses, and endurance performance. He also investigates mitigation strategies for pollution exposure during exercise.
Professor Koehle supervises graduate students, including Jem Arnold, and his lab is located in the Medical Sciences Block C, Room 118. He is available for collaborations in clusters and grants.
