Michael Kattah

Michael Kattah is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying intestinal inflammation and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), utilizing mouse models, patient-derived biopsies, and organoids to study intestinal epithelial cells and death signaling pathways.

Dr. Kattah's recent research explores single-cell and spatial transcriptomics in ulcerative colitis, checkpoint inhibitor enterocolitis, and anti-integrin therapies, with a focus on microbial signals, MyD88, and lymphotoxin in TNF-independent tissue damage. His work has been recognized by the American Society for Clinical Investigation (2021) and Digestive Disease Week (2016).

Notable findings include the role of A20 in restricting intestinal tumorigenesis, the impact of vedolizumab on ulcerative colitis, and interactions between IBD therapies and placental/adverse immune responses. Collaborations span the Chan-Zuckerberg Biohub and NIH-funded studies.
