Michael Johansson serves as Artistic Assistant Professor of Design within the Design Department at Kristianstad University's Faculty of Economics, while actively contributing to the Center for Food Health and Retail (FOHRK). His work spans design, art, digital media, and architecture with a focus on world-making, participation, and embodiment through interactive and technologically mediated processes.
His research investigates how narrative, spatial, and technical tools facilitate participation and shape audience experiences, particularly through 'worldmaking' where diverse perspectives converge. Current projects include SLIT (Games, Play and Immersive Technologies), HÅSS (Sustainable and Co-Creative Urban Development), and WLM (The Wandering Machine), addressing climate-smart urban development and digital-physical transitions. His work directly supports UN Sustainable Development Goals through citizen co-creation initiatives.
- Research Trends: Recent publications demonstrate increasing focus on climate-responsive urban design, autoethnographic methods in media art, and co-creative frameworks for sustainable cities. His work consistently bridges artistic practice with urban planning, emphasizing embodied experiences in hybrid physical-virtual environments.
- Collaborations: Active partnerships with researchers across Sweden and Europe, particularly on climate adaptation projects involving municipal stakeholders and community groups.
Johansson contributes to academic discourse through exhibitions, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications, with significant output in 2022-2025 including Urban Eidos journal articles and Venice Biennale contributions. His ORCID profile (0000-0003-1234-6757) documents extensive research activity since 2004 across design, media art, and sustainable urban development.
