Michael Jabot

Dr. Michael Jabot is a SUNY Distinguished Professor of Science Education at the State University of New York at Fredonia, serving in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction within the College of Education. He directs the Institute for Research in Science Teaching and holds the title of NASA Earth Ambassador. With a Ph.D. from Syracuse University, his work focuses on place-based science education using geospatial technologies, citizen science initiatives, and alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

His research emphasizes experiential learning, community partnerships for sustainability, and leveraging NASA programs like GLOBE and AREN to engage K-12 and undergraduate students in authentic scientific inquiry. Jabot has presented extensively at global conferences, including the Citizen Science Association, SXSW EDU, and the United Nations General Assembly Science Summit, advocating for science diplomacy and global collaboration.

He has received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research and recognition from professional organizations for his contributions to science education. His work bridges formal and informal education through projects like YouthMappers, integrating geospatial tools into curricula while addressing climate action and equity in STEM.

Dr. Jabot collaborates with international partners such as the Community Life Amelioration Organization (Tanzania), KBTN (Uganda), and Nigerian educational authorities to develop locally relevant solutions through science education. His research also explores mentorship frameworks, digital badges for skill recognition, and transforming teacher preparation programs to emphasize Earth system science pedagogy.
