Michael J. Stern (Mike) is a Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Media & Information at Michigan State University. He previously held academic and research roles at NORC at the University of Chicago, the College of Charleston, and Oklahoma State University.

- The role of marginalized groups in internet and social media usage
- Mobile technology adoption and its societal impacts
- Methodological innovations in web and mobile survey design
- Data science techniques for combining survey and big data
- Qualitative methods in questionnaire development
