Michael J. Douma is an Associate Professor at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business and Director of the Institute for the Study of Markets and Ethics. His research centers on American ethnic and immigration history, slavery, and the Dutch World, with a forthcoming book on Dutch New York slavery (Cambridge University Press, 2024).
He earned a B.A. from Hope College and Ph.D. in history from Florida State University, complemented by a Fulbright scholarship in the Netherlands. His educational background provides deep expertise in colonial American and Dutch historical contexts.
Professor Douma's scholarly work bridges historical analysis and business ethics through his directorship of the Institute for the Study of Markets and Ethics. His research examines how historical patterns of slavery and immigration inform contemporary market ethics, particularly through the lens of Dutch colonial influence in early America.
