Michael J. Dodds, OP is Professor of Philosophy and Theology at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology (DSPT), a member institution of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU), where he has served on the faculty since 1985.
His academic credentials include:
- STD from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland
- MDiv and MA in Theology from the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology
- BA and MA in Philosophy from St. Albert’s College
Dodds specializes in philosophical and theological anthropology, examining human nature through Thomistic philosophy while engaging contemporary science. His research extends to divine action in scientific contexts, Trinity theology, philosophy of nature, and theodicy—particularly how God relates to suffering. He consistently bridges classical theology with modern challenges in science and philosophy.
His publications from 1997-2014 reveal a cohesive trajectory: integrating Thomas Aquinas' thought with current scientific discourse. Key themes include reconciling divine action with natural causality, hylomorphic approaches to mind-brain problems, and reinterpreting divine immutability through the lens of love. This body of work demonstrates sustained commitment to making medieval theological frameworks relevant for 21st-century scientific and existential questions.
