معرفی
Michael I. Zimmer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University Northwest. He teaches courses in microbiology and immunology at introductory, upper-division, and graduate levels. His research focuses on CD1-restricted lipid-reactive T cells, bacterial pathogenesis, microbial ecology of the built environment, and cannabinoid immunomodulation. He collaborates with PNW faculty including Lindsay Gielda, Scott Bates, and Radmila Sarac Stanic on interdisciplinary projects.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health
- B.S. in Biology, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona
Research Interests: Dr. Zimmer’s work bridges immunology and microbiology, exploring how immune cells respond to pathogens and environmental factors. His lab investigates lipid antigen presentation via CD1 molecules, pathogen-host interactions, and the effects of cannabinoids on immune function. Collaborative projects examine microbial communities in built environments and their implications for human health.
Advising/Grants: While specific grants or student mentoring details are not listed, his active research collaborations suggest involvement in graduate student training and potential grant activities. His lab provides training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate researchers.
Labs/Teams: His laboratory is located in the NILS building (Hammond campus) and operates as part of PNW’s Biological Sciences department, engaging in interdisciplinary research with other faculty members.
