Professor Weinstein's research focuses on Partial Differential Equations, Applied Analysis, and Dynamical Systems as they relate to wave phenomena and multiscale problems in classical and quantum systems. His work spans theoretical mathematical analysis with significant applications in physics, optics, and materials science. Key research areas include waves in novel media such as 2D quantum materials and metamaterials, topologically protected states, nonlinear scattering theory, dynamics of Hamiltonian PDEs, and applications to control of coherent structures in optics and quantum physics. He also investigates scattering resonances with applications to electromagnetics, acoustics, and fluid dynamics, along with optimization, inverse problems, and free boundary problems in fluids.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on topological phenomena in honeycomb structures, edge states, and topologically protected systems. The research shows progression from fundamental mathematical analysis of nonlinear wave equations toward applications in photonic systems and quantum materials. His work combines rigorous mathematical techniques with physical insights, bridging pure mathematics and applied physics.
