Michael Hurd

Michael Hurd is a Senior Principal Researcher at RAND Corporation and a Research Professor at the Mannheim Research Institute for the Economics of Aging. He serves as Director of the RAND Center for the Study of Aging and holds affiliations with institutions such as the University of Heidelberg, Oxford University, and the University of Utah.

• Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering (University of Utah, 1964), M.S. in Statistics, Ph.D. in Economics (1971).

His research focuses on the economics of aging, encompassing retirement decisions, socioeconomic factors influencing mortality, health care utilization, and the impact of economic policies like Social Security and pensions. He plays a key role in major studies such as the Health and Retirement Study and contributes to global aging research networks.
