Bas van Groezen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TiSEM), Tilburg University, where he has been a faculty member since 2010. He also serves as the Academic Director of the Bachelor's program in Economics and Business Economics since 2020, and previously held the role for the Economics program from 2012 to 2019. He is affiliated with the Research Group: Economics and the Academic Collaborative Center for Digital Health & Mental Wellbeing.
His research interests include Macroeconomics, Public Economics, Ageing, Pensions, Fertility, and Health Care. His work often explores the economic implications of demographic shifts, pension reforms, and international economic integration. He has contributed to policy-relevant research through affiliations with Netspar (Network for Studies on Pensions, Aging and Retirement), where he was a fellow from 2009 to 2018.
The most recent publications reflect a strong focus on the intersection of demographic change and macroeconomic policy. His work spans topics such as pension design, EMU membership benefits, and international trade dynamics under demographic shocks. These studies employ quantitative methods like the synthetic control method and theoretical modeling to assess long-term economic impacts.
He has supervised research projects, including the project 'The economic effects of ageing', and currently accepts PhD students. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to economic growth, health, and well-being.
