Dr. Michael Hudgens is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Biostatistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill), part of the Gillings School of Global Public Health. He also serves as Director of the Biostatistics Core for UNC's Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). With over 15 years of teaching experience, he focuses on graduate-level biostatistics courses such as Survival Analysis and Causal Inference in Biomedical Research. His research spans Survival Analysis, Causal Inference, Infectious Diseases, and Clinical Trials.
Education: PhD in Biostatistics from Emory University (2000), MS and BS in Mathematics from the University of Florida (1996 and 1994).
Research emphasizes methodological contributions to statistical theory and applications in public health, particularly HIV/AIDS and infectious disease studies. Recent work addresses vaccine efficacy, intervention effects, and health disparities. Over 300 peer-reviewed publications include top journals like Biometrics, Annals of Statistics, and New England Journal of Medicine.
