Michael Hettwer serves as an Instructor of Horn at Pacific University, Professor of Horn at Willamette University since 1997, and at Linfield University. With 35 years as a freelance horn player in the Pacific Northwest, he holds principal positions with the Portland Opera Orchestra and Oregon Ballet Theatre Orchestra, and frequently performs with the Oregon Symphony and Eugene Symphony.
His expertise centers on Music Performance, particularly orchestral and horn performance. Hettwer has performed with major artists including The Who and The Eagles, and in Broadway productions such as Wicked, The Lion King, and Phantom of the Opera, as well as tours by Weird Al Yankovic and Mannheim Steamroller.
After 30 years teaching music in public schools, Hettwer retired from K-12 education but continues mentoring university students. His educational impact extends to his three adult children, all professional musicians, and decades of instruction across Pacific Northwest institutions.
He actively shapes regional music through roles as orchestra manager for Portland Opera and contractor for Portland's Best of Broadway series, Orpheus PDX, and major touring productions.
