Michael Herren

Michael Herren is an Adjunct Professor at Trent University specializing in Classical Studies and the intellectual history of late antiquity and the early Middle Ages. Formerly, he held positions at York University, the University of Toronto, and served as Senior Research Fellow at King’s College London. His work bridges ancient and medieval thought, focusing on how Graeco-Roman traditions were preserved and reinterpreted in early Christian contexts.

Research Interests: Dr. Herren investigates medieval schools, textual transmission of classical knowledge, and the adaptation of pagan mythology into Christian frameworks. Publications: His research spans monographs and articles on medieval Latin texts, including seminal works like The Cosmography of Aethicus Ister (2011) and Christ in Celtic Christianity (2002). These studies reveal how ancient knowledge shaped medieval worldviews through manuscripts, liturgical practices, and art.
