Michael Guevara is a retired Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology at McGill University, affiliated with the McIntyre Medical Sciences Building. His research focuses on cardiovascular physiology, particularly the dynamics of cardiac arrhythmias and spiral wave formation using computational models. He holds degrees from McGill University (B.Sc., B.Eng., Ph.D.).
Research Interests: Investigating mechanisms underlying cardiac arrhythmias through ionic modeling of spiral waves in ischemic ventricular muscle. His work aims to understand arrhythmia initiation and develop control strategies. Key areas include nonlinear dynamics, bifurcation analysis, and phase resetting in biological systems.
Labs: The Guevara Lab (www.medicine.mcgill.ca/physio/guevaralab) explores cardiac electrophysiology and arrhythmia dynamics. He is no longer accepting students but has contributed significantly to understanding ischemia-driven arrhythmias and spiral wave behavior.
Professional Contributions: Published extensively on cardiac physiology, nonlinear dynamics, and arrhythmia mechanisms. Collaborated with experts like Leon Glass and Michael C. Mackey on interdisciplinary approaches to cardiac dynamics.
