University of North Carolina at Chapel Hillمعرفی
Michael Gamcsik is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at NC State University, part of the College of Engineering. His research focuses on metabolic dynamics in human diseases, particularly cancer and neurodegeneration, using advanced chemical and imaging techniques.
Education: PhD in Chemistry/Biochemistry from the University of Edinburgh, UK, and BS in Chemistry from the University of Connecticut.
Research Interests: Dynamic studies of redox metabolism, functional mass spectrometry imaging (fMSI), magnetic resonance spectroscopy, oxidative stress mechanisms, drug resistance in cancer, and metabolic pathways in aging. Collaborates with Professors David Muddiman (Chemistry) and Shawn Gomez (BME) to develop predictive models of metabolic activity in tissues.
Awards include NIH grants for early independence research (2016) and contributions to global health cancer technologies (2015).
Recruits postdoctoral fellows and graduate students to advance research in metabolic dynamics using isotope tracing and mathematical modeling.
Labs: The Gamcsik Laboratory explores how metabolic dynamics reflect tissue function and disease progression, with applications in developing antimetastatic drugs and understanding tumor microenvironments.
