Michael Gallmeyer is the Consumer Bankers Association Professor of Commerce and serves as Director of the McIntire Center for Investors and Financial Markets at the University of Virginia. He holds courtesy appointments in the Department of Economics at the University of Virginia and the Department of Finance at the University of Melbourne.

Professor Gallmeyer’s research focuses on how market imperfections influence security prices and trade, with expertise in heterogeneous beliefs, taxation, trading constraints, monetary policy, and asset management intermediation. His work bridges finance, macroeconomics, and tax policy, often applying quantitative models to equilibrium pricing problems.
His recent publications explore volatility spreads, uncertainty shocks, activism in equity markets, and tax-optimized portfolio strategies, reflecting a blend of theoretical and empirical finance. Themes include market inefficiencies, investor behavior, and policy implications.
