His career spans clinical practice, academic teaching, and research in human genetics.
Education:
- MHM (University of New South Wales)
- MMedSc(ClinEpid) (University of New South Wales)
- MBBS (University of Queensland)
Research Interests: Michael focuses on rare genetic disorders, particularly Temple-Baraitser syndrome and the molecular basis of sesquizygotic (semi-identical) twinning. His work bridges clinical genetics, genomics education, and ethical implications of genetic testing. He actively contributes to advancing diagnostic genomics and medical genetics education for healthcare professionals.
Articles Trends: His publications emphasize molecular mechanisms of rare genetic conditions, genomics education, and clinical applications of genetic research. Key themes include pediatric genetic disorders, twin formation biology, and ethical policy in genetics.
Awards:
- 2023 Service Excellence Award (Human Genetics Society of Australasia)
Teaching & Leadership: Michael has served on committees for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, including the Advanced Training Committee in Clinical Genetics. He co-developed QUT’s diagnostic genomics programs and contributed to national guidelines like the 'Core Capabilities in Genomics for Medical Graduates'.
