Dr. Michael Forster is a Researcher at the Australian National University (ANU) and Manager of the ANU NanoPhase Facility. He specializes in mineralogy, petrology, and geochemistry with a focus on nano-spectroscopic methods, mantle processes, and ore formation. His research explores element enrichment mechanisms, subduction zone dynamics, and continental mantle metasomatism. He has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as Nature, Science Advances, and Geology.
His work spans experimental petrology, geochemical tracing of magmatic and hydrothermal systems, and tephrochronology. He actively supervises graduate students and collaborates internationally on projects involving mantle melting, crustal evolution, and deep Earth cycles. Dr. Forster's facility management at the NanoPhase Facility supports advanced analytical infrastructure for Earth sciences research.
