Michael Forbes

Dr. Michael Forbes serves as a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Northeast Ohio Medical University and holds multiple leadership roles at Akron Children's Hospital, including Chief Academic Officer, William H. and Rebecca D. Considine Endowed Chair for Pediatric Research, and Head of the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute. Previously, he served as chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and was past president of the medical staff.

Dr. Forbes specializes in pediatric/adolescent critical care medicine with expertise developed through his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, pediatric residency, and fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. His career has spanned since 1998, with Akron Children's since 2006.

As Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Forbes oversees Akron Children's extensive research enterprise with over 400 active research projects, including clinical trials for neurological conditions and pediatric cancers. He plays a pivotal role in training the next generation of pediatricians through Akron Children's renowned residency program and 13 fellowship programs, with a focus on creating research pathways for academically inclined trainees. Dr. Forbes leads the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute, which serves as the hub for pediatric research at Akron Children's.
