Michael Fausnaugh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Texas Tech University. He holds a Ph.D. in Astronomy from The Ohio State University and leads research in time-domain astrophysics. His group uses NASA's TESS satellite to study supernovae, black holes, and exoplanets.
Research focuses on accretion physics around supermassive black holes, supernova progenitor systems, and multimessenger astronomy. He directs NASA's TESS Data Analysis Working Group, overseeing data validation and public releases of exoplanet candidates. Current projects include reverberation mapping campaigns and gravitational wave counterpart searches.
Honors include the NASA Silver Achievement Medal (2019) and multiple graduate fellowships. He mentors 3 graduate students and 5 undergraduates in high-cadence astronomical data analysis. Outreach initiatives include eclipse events and STEM programs for K-12 students.
