Michael F. Vansco is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Coastal Carolina University, specializing in atmospheric chemistry and pollutant dynamics. He holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania (2020) and conducted postdoctoral research at Argonne National Laboratory. His research focuses on Criegee intermediates, their reactivity in the atmosphere, and environmental impacts. He teaches general chemistry and leads a laboratory dedicated to simulating atmospheric chemical processes. His work combines experimental techniques with theoretical modeling to explore reaction mechanisms and kinetics.
Education: B.S. Chemistry, University of Rhode Island (2015); Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, University of Pennsylvania (2020).
Research Interests: Atmospheric chemistry, Criegee intermediates, photochemistry, pollutant degradation pathways, and the interplay between climate and atmospheric composition. His lab investigates how pollutants transform via reactive intermediates, with applications to air quality and environmental health.
Publications: Recent work includes studies on Criegee oligomerization, ozonolysis products, and reaction dynamics with SO₂ and formic acid. His findings contribute to global atmospheric models and field measurements in the Amazonian troposphere.
Grants & Collaboration: Involved in interdisciplinary projects linking theoretical predictions with experimental data. Active in global atmospheric chemistry communities.
Labs & Teams: Directs a state-of-the-art laboratory at Coastal Carolina University focused on atmospheric simulation and spectroscopic analysis.
