Dr. Michael E. Geusz is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Bowling Green State University’s College of Arts and Sciences. His research program integrates circadian biology with cancer stem-cell and adult neurogenesis studies, utilizing live-cell imaging, mouse models, and genomic/proteomic approaches.
Education:
- Ph.D. – Vanderbilt University
Research Focus:
Work in the Geusz laboratory centers on how daily biological clocks influence stem-cell behavior and tumor progression. By imaging circadian gene expression in neural explants and tumor models, the group interrogates signaling cascades that govern metastasis, therapy resistance, and neurogenesis. A complementary line explores the chemo-preventive phytochemical curcumin and its clock-dependent anti-cancer activities.
Across 30 years of continuous federal and institutional funding, his group has produced >60 peer-reviewed articles revealing that circadian timing gates epithelial-mesenchymal transition, cancer stem-cell survival, and differentiation of adult-born neurons.
Laboratory & Resources:
Located in 414 Life Sciences Building, the lab houses state-of-the-art bioluminescence imaging, live-cell microscopy, and electrophysiology suites that support both undergraduate and graduate training in chronobiology and cancer biology.
