Michael Doering is an Associate Professor of Physics and Deputy Chair at the Department of Physics, George Washington University (GW). His research focuses on nuclear/hadronic physics, particularly the interplay between lattice QCD calculations and experimental data to understand Strong Interaction phenomena, such as resonance dynamics and three-body systems. He is a core member of the Jülich-Bonn-Washington (JBW) collaboration, advancing coupled-channel analyses for hadron spectroscopy.
Education: PhD in Physics (2001-2007, Universitat de València, Spain), postdoctoral roles at Research Centre Jülich (2007-2010) and Universität Bonn (2010-2014). Joined GW in 2014 as Assistant Professor, promoted to Associate in 2019.
Research interests include: lattice QCD simulations of three-body resonances (e.g., π+π+π+ systems), chiral extrapolations, and data-driven determinations of particle properties like the Λ baryon’s α_ parameter. He co-developed tools for global data fits and visualization of SAID datasets. Awards include 2015 NSF CAREER Award and SPS Honors Society.
Collaborations extend to Jefferson Lab, ELSA, and MAMI accelerators. Current projects explore machine learning applications in resonance analysis and contributions to the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) theory alliance.
