معرفی
Dr. Michael Dingfelder is a Professor and Assistant Chair for Graduate Studies in the Department of Physics at East Carolina University. He holds a PhD in Physics from Eberhard-Karls University Tübingen (1995). His research focuses on theoretical radiation physics, Monte Carlo simulations of radiation damage in biological systems, and computational anatomical phantoms for radiation transport. He teaches advanced physics courses including Quantum Mechanics I/II and Solid State Physics.
Research Interests:
- Interaction of charged particles (protons, ions) with biologically relevant materials like liquid water and DNA
- Monte Carlo track-structure simulations for radiation biology applications
- Development of transport models for nanoparticles and anatomical phantoms
Recent Work Trends:
- Focus on dielectric response modeling in liquid water
- Comparative studies of radiation transport codes (PARTRAC, NOREC)
- Analysis of secondary electron emission from materials
- Investigation of clustered DNA lesions under ion irradiation
Teaching: Courses include Mechanics I, Thermodynamics & Statistical Physics, and specialized graduate-level physics topics.
Labs/Teams: Active in radiation physics research groups, collaborating on PARTRAC simulation development and radiation dosimetry projects.
