His research focuses on ecological forecasting, integrating field data, statistical methods, and numerical models to understand ecological systems. Current projects include the Near-term Ecological Forecasting Initiative (NEFI) and the PEcAn project, addressing ecological predictability, carbon cycle dynamics, and environmental monitoring. He teaches courses such as EE 509 (Applied Environmental Statistics), emphasizing Bayesian methods and statistical modeling. His work has been funded by NSF, NASA, and the California Air Resources Board, with grants focused on carbon cycle assimilation, climate solutions, and ecological modeling.
