Michael De Freitas

Dr. Michael De Freitas is a Distinguished Research Fellow in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London's Faculty of Engineering. He holds roles as External Examiner for the Masters in Applied Geosciences at the University of Hong Kong and Chairman of the Teaching and Training Committee at the International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment. His career spans over 35 years, including re-establishing the link between Engineering Geology and Soil Mechanics courses at Imperial, mirroring historical academic structures.

• Professional Roles: Vice President of the Geological Society of London, Editor of the Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology, and Chair of CIRIA's British Stratigraphical Nomenclature working group.
