Michael D. Snediker is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Houston, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. His research spans Queer Theory, Disability Theory, Affect Theory, and Aesthetics, with a focus on intersections between chronic pain, embodiment, and American literature from the 19th to 20th centuries.
- Education: Ph.D. (2005), M.A. (2003) from Johns Hopkins University; M.Phil. (2000) from Cambridge University; B.A. (1998, summa cum laude) from Williams College.
His scholarship engages with poetry and poetics, American Romanticism, and queer/ experimental American poetics, as evidenced by his books Contingent Figure: Chronic Pain and Queer Embodiment (2021) and Queer Optimism (2008). His articles, appearing in journals like differences and Qui Parle, explore topics such as queer phenomenology, chronic objects, and poetic vision.
Scientific Awards include the Poets Out Loud Prize, Lambda Finalist recognition, and fellowships at Yaddo. He also contributes actively to queer poetry as a published author.
