Michael Cohen is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Marketing at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University, where he has been teaching since September 2011. His academic work bridges marketing, economics, and statistics, with a focus on consumer decision-making and retail strategy.

His research interests center on competitive marketing strategy, food retailing, method of payment, and consumer choice models. A significant strand of his work explores the strategic implications of corporate social responsibility, particularly in improving child nutrition. He has also studied competition in store brand provision and quantified the benefits of private label products for firms and consumers.
Professor Cohen was awarded the 2010 William Applebaum Dissertation Award for his outstanding dissertation in food marketing. Before joining NYU Stern, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut's Food Marketing Policy Center, where he taught Marketing Management and Quantitative Marketing.
He advises on marketing analytics and has contributed to policy-relevant research in food marketing. While no formal list of advisees is available, his role includes mentoring students in quantitative marketing and consumer behavior. He is affiliated with research initiatives focused on retail innovation and consumer welfare.
