Christensen’s research interrogates how digital media, science, and transnational expert cultures shape democratic life. Combining qualitative and computational methods, he explores vaccine misinformation on social platforms, the global work of anti-disinformation NGOs, and the deployment of rights talk within COVID-related conspiracy milieus.
His recent publications map three interlocking arenas: (1) health disinformation and computational social science, (2) the cultural politics of international democracy promotion, and (3) the intellectual history of elite theory and mid-century voter studies. Collectively this corpus advances a critical sociology of expertise attentive to power, discourse, and digital mediation.
Current Grant:
- SSHRC Insight Development Grant (2021-2023) – “Cultural typology of vaccine misinformation” (Principal Investigator)
He welcomes graduate supervision on topics spanning democracy & digital culture, practice theory, science & technology studies, health communication, data justice, and mixed-methods digital research.
