Michael Childress is an IPPMI Instructor at the Gatton College of Business and Economics, University of Kentucky. He previously served as the first executive director of the Kentucky Long-Term Policy Research Center (1993–present) and was an analyst at the RAND Corporation (1988–1993). He collaborates with the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) and the Martin School of Public Policy and Administration to inform policymakers on economic and public finance issues.

- M.A. in Political Science, University of California, Los Angeles, 1986
His research interests focus on applied economic studies, public policy analysis, and public finance. He has authored reports on topics including tobacco, entrepreneurism, child care, taxation, immigration, healthcare, and transportation. Notable works include the 2001 report Financing State and Local Government: Future Challenges and Opportunities and a statewide conference on public finance trends.
He currently supports CBER’s role as the leading authority on the Kentucky economy and works with the Martin School to bridge academic research and policy implementation.
