Michael Carrasco is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Santa Clara University. He holds a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley (1990), followed by M.A. (1991), M.Phil. (1994), and Ph.D. (1995) degrees from Columbia University. His research focuses on site-specific attachment of small organic molecules to peptides and proteins, investigating how structural and functional properties are altered through chemical modifications. He teaches Organic Chemistry I, II, III and Bioorganic Chemistry.

Research emphasizes chemoselective alkylation methods to modify synthetic peptides, with applications in neolipopeptide synthesis and glycopeptide mimicry. Recent presentations include work at the Chinese International Peptide Symposium (2006) and the Peptides Gordon Conference (2006). Courses taught reflect expertise in organic and bioorganic chemistry fundamentals.
No scientific awards listed. Advising includes undergraduate researchers co-authoring publications on peptide chemistry and organic synthesis methodologies.
