András Kristóf Perczel is a Hungarian chemist and full Professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Sciences, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest. He was elected as Head of the Department in 2007 and is a distinguished member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 2010.
- Education: Roman Catholic High School of the Piarists, Technical University of Veszprém (1980-81), and Eötvös Loránd University (1982-85, M.Sc. in Chemistry).
- Academic Journey: PhD Fellow of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1985-1988); Postdoctoral Fellowships at Brandeis University (1989-1992) and University of Toronto (1992-1994); Research Fellow at ELTE (1993-1995); advanced from Research Professor (1998-2001) to full Professor (2001-present).
His research focuses on computational and spectroscopic methods for understanding peptide/protein structures, including ab initio modeling, NMR techniques, and glycopeptide synthesis. He combines synthetic chemistry with dynamic characterization of biomolecules, contributing to fields like foldamer design and structural bioinformatics.
Scientific Recognition:
- Bolyai Prize (2011)
- Fulbright Fellowship (2006)
- Pro Scientia Gold Medal (1993, 1995)
- Zemplén Géza Award (1996)
