Michael Butler

Dr Michael Butler is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering at the University of Bolton, where he has served since 1992 and played a pivotal role in developing the university's Mathematics degree programs.

His academic credentials include:

• BSc (First Class Honours) in Mathematics from the University of Manchester (1988)
• MSc in Pure Mathematics from the University of Manchester (1989)
• PhD in Algebraic Combinatorics from the University of Manchester (1992)
• MA in Philosophy (with distinction) from the University of Bolton (2002, completed part-time)

Research focuses on abstract algebra, with specialized expertise in group theory, ring theory, and Galois theory. He also maintains significant experience teaching Mathematics to Engineering students and other interdisciplinary audiences, enhancing cross-departmental educational outcomes.
