Michael Bumann is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of History, Philosophy, and Political Science at Bethel University's College of Arts and Sciences. He joined the institution in 2023 after 17 years of teaching in Chinese higher education. His academic background includes a B.A. in History (2006) from Bethel University and an M.A. in Asian Studies (2018) from the University of Michigan.
His research spans East Asian History, the Civil Service Examination System, and Comparative Education, with a focus on Cultures of Teaching and Learning, Border Crossing, and the History of Christianity and Communism in China. He has taught courses like Cross-Cultural Communication and History of China, Japan, and Korea.
