Professor Michael Bourke is a Clinical Professor at the Westmead Clinical School, University of Sydney, specializing in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. His research focuses on advanced endoscopic techniques including endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), third space endoscopy, and the management of complex colorectal polyps and Barrett's esophagus. He leads significant clinical research in therapeutic endoscopy and has contributed to developing international guidelines for endoscopic procedures.
His research interests center on optimizing endoscopic resection techniques, reducing recurrence rates for large polyps, and developing innovative approaches for esophageal motility disorders. He has pioneered techniques like cold snare EMR and hybrid papillary resection to improve patient outcomes.
Professor Bourke mentors research students including Sunil Gupta, exploring innovations in endoscopic tissue resection.
