Michael Bok is a Researcher at Lund University, affiliated with the Lund Vision Group and Sensory Biology. His work focuses on the visual systems of marine invertebrates, particularly fan worms and mantis shrimp. He holds a PhD from the University of Maryland (2013), followed by postdoctoral fellowships at Lund University and a BBSRC independent fellowship at Bristol University. Currently, he investigates the developmental and neurological factors influencing the evolution of simple eyes in fan worms.
Research Interests:
- Unusual visual systems of marine invertebrates
- Evolutionary origins of visual systems
- Behavioral and neurological adaptations in marine organisms
Projects:
- Eyes inside out: Visual coding without a multilayered retina (2025–2029)
- The Ecology of Vision in Changing Waters (2024–2025)
His articles explore topics such as fluorescence in tetrapods, polychromatic vision in mantis shrimp, and light adaptations in marine organisms. Collaborations span global institutions, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to sensory biology.
