Michael Barlow is an Instructor in Continuing Studies and Art Education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago since 1988. He holds a BFA from Indiana University's Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Art and an MFA from SAIC. His artistic practice examines spirituality, biblical themes, social critiques of human injustice, and the four persistent themes in painting history: self, society, spirituality, and nature.
His research explores contemporary issues at the intersection of arts integration, academic freedom, and community outreach. Current scholarly interests include analyzing 'What Paintings Want' through the lenses of biblical studies, human rights issues, and racial justice frameworks within artistic traditions.
