Michael Anranter is a PhD student and University Assistant (prae-Doc) at the University of Vienna's Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology. He holds dual master's degrees in political science and cultural/social anthropology. His research focuses on infrastructure development, urban transformation, identity politics, and participatory/visual research methods, particularly in post-socialist Eastern Europe.
His doctoral work examines the interplay between road/bridge construction and local communities in northern Bulgaria. Before joining the university, he contributed to projects SPACES and DANUrB, which addressed challenges faced by former socialist countries in the Danube region.
Anranter has published on topics including cultural heritage along the Danube, urban restructuring in Bolzano, and the role of arts in civil society. He teaches courses listed on u:find and maintains office hours by prior email arrangement.
