Michael Allemana is a Lecturer in Jazz Guitar at the School of Theatre and Music, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He earned his PhD in Ethnomusicology from the University of Chicago, Master of Music in Jazz Studies from Northwestern University, and Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from Northern Illinois University.

- Humanities Teaching Fellowship at the University of Chicago

He has presented research at the Society of Ethnomusicology (2015, 2021), Society of American Music (2018), American Musicological Society (2021), and Hyde Park Jazz Festival (2022). As an educator, he has taught at the University of Chicago, DePaul University, Northern Illinois University, the Brubeck Institute, and Colombia College, emphasizing music as both structure and social context.
Allemana leads musical projects such as the Mike Allemana Organ Trio, George Freeman Organ Quartet, and The Regulators trio (with Matt Ferguson and Gerald Dowd), whose debut album is scheduled for 2024. His work 'Vonology' (2022) connects academic research on Von Freeman to original compositions, while 'Live at The Green Mill' (2017) documents collaborative performances. He also arranged for Paul Marinaro’s 2022 vocal album 'Not Quite Yet.'
