Dr. Michael A. Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Kansas. He holds a B.S. from the United States Air Force Academy (1988), an M.S. from the University of Colorado Denver (2000), and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia (2002). He completed postdoctoral training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2002–2005). His research focuses on developing bioanalytical techniques to study neurotransmitter signaling in neurological disorders, including Huntington’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and chemobrain.
Key research areas include microsensor development, microfluidics, electrochemical detection, and fluorescence microscopy. Notable projects involve studying dopamine release impairments in neurodegenerative models and chemotherapy-induced cognitive decline. Dr. Johnson’s lab employs cutting-edge methods such as fast-scan cyclic voltammetry and caged compound photolysis to investigate neurotransmitter interactions and oxidative stress mechanisms.
