Michael A. Clemens is a Professor in the Department of Economics at George Mason University and a nonresident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. His research focuses on migration and development, economic growth, and aid effectiveness. With 20 years of experience building research programs on international migration at the Center for Global Development, he maintains affiliations with multiple international institutions including the IZA Institute of Labor Economics and the Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration.
His research examines economic causes and effects of migration worldwide, with publications in premier journals like the American Economic Review. He holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University, specializing in economic history, public economics, and development economics. Clemens is multilingual with proficiency in English, Spanish, Turkish, French, and Portuguese.
