Michał Chmielewski

Michał Chmielewski is a Professor and Head of the Department of Rheumatology, Clinical Immunology, Geriatrics and Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Medical University of Gdańsk. His research focuses on autoimmune rheumatic diseases, nephrology, and geriatric healthcare with an emphasis on chronic conditions like systemic sclerosis and Sjögren's syndrome. He has authored over 150 publications including influential clinical guidelines on contrast media use in kidney patients and metabolic studies in rheumatic disorders.

Key research interests include stress-related autoimmune triggers, nutritional interventions in chronic illnesses, and biomarker discovery using metabolomics techniques. Recent work addresses NSAID usage patterns among seniors and clinical phenotyping of fibromyalgia patients. He leads collaborative studies involving multidisciplinary teams across Poland and internationally.
