Michèle Tertilt is a Professor of Economics at the University of Mannheim, where she has been affiliated since 2010. She also serves as Director of the Review of Economic Studies and Research Professor at the Deutsche Bundesbank. Previously, she was an Assistant Professor at Stanford University and held fellowships at the Hoover Institution and University of Pennsylvania. She holds an MA from Bielefeld University (1997) and MA/PhD from the University of Minnesota (2003).
Her research lies at the intersection of macroeconomics, family dynamics, and development economics, with seminal work on:
- Women's rights and economic growth
- Gendered impacts of COVID-19
- Consumer bankruptcy frameworks
- Polygyny-poverty linkages in Africa
