Mia Svantesson is an Associate Professor in Medical Ethics at Örebro University's School of Health Sciences. She is also a Research Supervisor at the University Health Service Research Center and an Ethics Expert in Region Örebro County. Her academic career focuses on ethics support in healthcare, particularly decision-making around life-sustaining treatments and moral case deliberation. She employs methodologies like abductive content analysis and ethnography in her research.

Her research spans critical care ethics, ethical stress in pandemics, and development of evaluation instruments for ethics support. She has led projects like the European ETHICATT and CONFLICUS, as well as national studies on ethical challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her articles emphasize intensive care ethics, moral reasoning, and patient-physician dynamics.
